Application of PureScape® using a backpack sprayer.
A new public green oasis came to the Greenwich Peninsula in London in spring 2015, with a new uniquely designed Peninsula Garden. Tom Dixon’s Design Research Studio, in collaboration with landscape gardeners Alys Fowler and Thomas Hoblyn, unveiled their first outdoor project and in addition to the open green spaces, an amphitheatre offers a diverse calendar of music, theatre and cinema events, inspired by the geometry of the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland.
The hexagonal blocks used in the design and construction were manufactured by Specialist Precast Products in Caerphilly who recommended the protection of the installed blocks with PureScape®, an impregnation treatment making maintenance easier by preventing water and stain ingress whilst retaining the aesthetics of the surface. A water-based product, this was applied just as all finishing works had been completed using a back-pack sprayer.
